Biking Burnsville

Stories by the Seat of my Pants

2nd Season

| Saturday, April 5, 2008
The 1st season (2007) of biking burnsville was limited for many reasons. Two of the more important were, over working during the week and spending time at my cabin in Waterville on the weekends. Hopefully, this year I can get out during the week. My weekends will remain to be filled with cabin life (which also includes biking). I am considering the idea of making this more of a videoblog. Making short video clips of my visits through out the area, as I travel on my bike. Let's see what happens? So let's go forth from this lovely 70 plus Spring day!

Trip 5

Trip 4 Back in the Saddle

| Thursday, May 17, 2007

Short Trip on May 17th. Life has been rather busy, biking has been put on the back burner for a bit. This evening took a ride to Mary Mother of the Church then headed south on Cliff Road and over to Highland Park. Soccer had just finished, the visiting bus was pulling away, and the last of the soccer refs was leaving too. Highland Park is a nicely full feature park when a pleasant widing paved path. Working my way to Red Oak park the path leads into a neighborhood street. Taking that street over to Red Oak, one needs to cross Kennelly. Immediately you find there is NO side walk on the south side of the road and the shoulders are very narrow and cars go at various speeds. There is no crosswalk, but if you cross you either have to jump the curve or walk your bike over the curve to get to the next path. Then off to Red Oak park.

Trip 3 To the Pond

| Saturday, April 14, 2007

Utec Pond on a sunny afternoon. Though the pond provided a nice reflection the water was very brown. It was difficult to see more than two inches into the water. Close to the surface was hundreds of minnows and one finger size bullhead. Through the chocolate haze, if one looked closely you cold see the orange of large goldfish a few feet from the shoreline.

Snow Day

| Wednesday, April 11, 2007

It snowed all day, temperatures hung around 35 degrees keeping accumulations down, but enough snow to keep this bike from making any trips on this day.
| Sunday, April 8, 2007

Trip 2, was taken in the afternoon of Easter day. The wind form the day before was gone, the sun was out and the temperature was leaning toward 40 degrees. It was a quiet ride. Very few folks were out. Most major stores were closed, with a few folks out walking. Thus the ride was not eventful until my bicycle seat decided to adjust itself on it's own. The seat decided to point up and thus the ride became somewhat uncomfortable. Todays trip took me to Crosstown Park and Heart of the City.

Short slide presention of todays trip.

the Beginning of the Adventure, Trip 1

| Saturday, April 7, 2007

Sometimes you need to take a different path to see one's surrounding and capture life.
This is my way!
On Apl 4, 2007 a Lakeville fellow decided to sell a bike for $35 on Craigslist, and by 3pm on that rainy cold day, the bike found it's way into my garage. Thus a necessary piece to my adventure was in place. On this cold, sunny, breezy Saturday, with the temp resting at 30 degrees for a high, windchill sliding the temp down to 5 degrees above, I ventured out on Trip One. A half mile from home, I took out my old Canon A40 digital camera and the bike posed for a profile photo on the banks of Utec pond. This pond once was home to plate size blue gills, and feisty largemouth bass in crystal clear water. Then the city thought it was a good idea to drain street run off into the pond. Today this pond when viewed up close has that army green brown color of old army clothing. Progress comes in many colors and flavors....so lets travel......and see!
